The narrative is good and well-intentioned. It makes you laugh out and contains some amusing one-liners, brilliant gags, and allusions to other films, some of which succeed and others of which don’t. Ananya makes the statement, “Mujhe dancing, singing aur painting ka kitna shaunk hai,” in one scene, and it immediately brings to mind young Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Similar to how Babuji Amrish Puri’s photo of Raj and Simran flies into his lap in another scene, a character in that scene throws a pregnancy test kit from the balcony and it lands right in someone’s lap.

Karam, a farm kid from Mathura, has a tough time trying to pay back the money his father owes to the world. But he can’t marry the woman he loves since her father has set requirements. Karam impersonates Pooja to make ends meet, leading to hilarious anarchy and a comedy of blunders.
Pooja/Karamveer “Karam” Singh (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Pari Srivastava (Ananya Panday) are starring in the film as the supporting cast.
Abu Saleem, Shahrukh’s father, is played by Paresh Rawal; Annu Kapoor plays Jagjit Singh Karam’s father; Vijay Raaz plays Saajan Tiwari aka Sona Bhai; Rajpal Yadav plays Shoukiya, Abu’s step-son; Asrani plays Abu’s father, Yusuf Ali Salim Khan; Manoj Joshi plays Pari’s father, Jai
Sequel to Dream Girl
The producers of the first film in the series, “Dream Girl,” are back with the sequel. The film’s protagonist, ‘Pooja,’ will once again be played by Ayushmann Khurrana, but this time she will have more to do than merely answer the phone. In the sequel, Ananya Panday takes the role of Nushrratt Bharuccha. The upbeat music and offbeat antics of Ayushmann as ‘Pooja’ have generated considerable interest. Over the last two days, the film has sold 28,751 tickets in advance. It’s off to a sluggish start, but perhaps it’ll take up thanks to applause from various celebrities.
Bollywood’s elite, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Navya Naveli Nanda, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Suhana Khan, and many more, attended a private screening of the film last night hosted by the filmmakers. Actors Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vijay Raaz, and others join Ayushmann and Ananya in the film. The film is being released today, so check out the ETimes blog for reviews, celebrity responses, and more as the day progresses.
Ayushmann Khurrana deserves praise for never seeming hopeless or panicked. When the writing fails, he doesn’t back down an inch. When the situation calls for it, Manjot Singh stays in the scene and helps out the main character.
